Switzerland: Children have a right to Bible education

In opposition to the government's decision to nullify the subject, "Bible history" from the required general education program at elementary schools, the comittee of Christian churches is starting a campaign.

The comittee proscribes that "our children have a right to become educated in our religious heritance as a basic step to inherit our culture. This is part of the educational responsibility of the schools."

Lilo Lätsch from the teachers council of Zurich, one of the first supporters of the campaign stated to the media that only with the firm base can children stand and succeed in the world: "Education includes more than the knowledge of Mathematics, reading and writing. The knowledge of religious basics supplies people with an important aspect of complete education."
