Fresh from airing its premiere episode titled "Splinter," Syfy's "12 Monkeys" series is yet to unravel more thrills and secrets as it goes forward for its first season.

The TV adaptation series of the 1995 Bruce Willis-headed movie of the same name, reveals the protagonist Cole (Aaron Stanford) being sent back in time to try to stop a virus outbreak consequently changing the apocalyptic future of 2043 to which he lives in.

In this week's showing, TV Fanatic reported that as part of his mission, Cole would come face to face with Leland Goines' (Zeljko Ivanek) eccentric daughter Jennifer (Emily Hampshire).

Through the "Mentally Divergent" Jennifer, Cole will try to find more answers to the question as to why the first attempt to stop the plague was unsuccessful. Apart from that, Jennifer might also offer information about the "Army of the 12 Monkeys."

But this won't be easy for the chrononaut. A mysterious "Pallid Man" (Tom Noonan) is also making his way into the show, which as TV Fanatic reveals, will abduct Jennifer.

Executive producer Natalie Chaidez informed The Hollywood Reporter the crew's vision for the first season of the show. She noted that the freshman season will delve into the mystery surrounding the Army of the 12 Monkeys.

"Who the 12 Monkeys are, what they are trying to accomplish, how they relate to time travel is the big question of the series. Unraveling that mystery is our series journey. Knowing where Cole fits in their plan is a big part of it … In the series, we have the time to explore what was around those dark corners that we couldn't peer around in the movie. We really get to dig into how people survive in the future and how they are living," the EP revealed (via Blastr).

"12 Monkeys" airs every Friday on Syfy.
