Tag Heuer Connected Modular Release Date, Specs Rumors: Hybrid Android Wear 2.0 Smartwatch Touted to Arrive in March

Tag Heuer has already confirmed that they are working on their second smartwatch but instead of the original release window this May, the latest reports suggest that the Swiss watchmaker's new wearable device, equipped with Android Wear 2.0, could be arriving next month.

Sources have told Android Central that the smartwatch, rumored to be called Connected Modular, will arrive on March 14. The upcoming device will feature the latest version of Google's operating system for wearable devices but unlike other recently released Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches, it will have a unique setup that will make it stand out in the market.

The publication revealed that the Tag Heuer Connected Modular will have fully customizable lugs with a variety of straps and clasps that can be switched out depending on the user's preference. It will also reportedly have a custom automatic watch head module that will allow users to switch between the Android Wear 2.0 body and a more traditional automatic movement.

Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver confirmed the watchmaker's second smartwatch in an interview with German publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung last month.

The executive first talked about the surprising success of the Connected smartwatch, which was released in November 2015. They had initially expected to sell 20,000 units but the wearable device went on to sell over 50,000 units despite its $1,500 price tag.

He mentioned that they have employees working on the new smartwatch's technology in Silicon Valley but the device's aesthetics and housing will still be Swiss-made. Meanwhile, the microprocessors will be from Intel. Some of the other expected features include a more accurate global positioning system (GPS), better reception, a longer battery life and a more powerful display. There will also be a payment function, most likely via Android Pay.

Biver also talked about the modular system of the upcoming smartwatch wherein there will be a smaller watch for women as well as a larger version of the original Connected. The wearable device is also said to come in different colors and materials.

Tag Heuer has not commented on the rumored release date for the Connected Modular so information regarding the upcoming smartwatch's launch should be taken with a grain of salt.
