TBN Launches Faith-Based TV Contest

The world's largest religious broadcaster has launched a brand new contest that will challenge the best of Christian producers to create original programming for their list of network stations.

Through "Innovate: the Ultimate Programming Challenge," Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) is searching for the most original faith-based television shows to go on four of their digital networks. TBN's owners have invited all Christian producers to create and submit their own new projects which may then find a home on one of it channels.

"TBN Networks is looking for innovative new programs for all of our digital networks," explained Paul Crouch Jr., TBN's Vice President for Administration, in a statement. "To inspire the best and brightest of producers to submit their shows we've created a special contest."

Winners of the contest will broadcast their creation on one of the following channels: Smile of a Child, focusing on children between two and twelve; JCTV, a Christian music channel targeted toward teens and young adults; the Church Channel, which broadcast church service programs 24 hours a day; or Enlace USA, which reaches a Hispanic audience.

Interested producers should craft their program to be able to fit within one of the stations.

"Over the years, we've all heard the charge that Christian television isn't all it could be," added Crouch, in a statement. "Well, we're looking for the best of the best in faith-based producers, and we're going to empower them to help change the face of our industry – to start producing shows for the next generation of faith-based television."

Those wishing to enter the contest can submit their projects in two ways. They can submit them in person at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention being held Apr. 14-19 in Las Vegas by presenting a DVD to the Worship for Technology Pavilion in the TBN Networks. Program creators can also submit them by mail by sending a DVD to "The Ultimate TBN Networks Program Challenge."

TBN program executives encourage participants to submit projects at the NAB convention since they will be able to meet and speak about it in person. Contestants must set up an interview ahead of time, however, to meet.

The deadline for entries is Apr. 30.
