Tebow Does It Again, Thanking Jesus After Miraculous Win

Denver Broncos starting quarterback Tim Tebow, who has faced criticism for expressing his Christian faith on the field, once again thanked Jesus publicly on Sunday after guiding his team to a last-minute victory.

“I guess, first and foremost I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Tebow told reporters after rallying his team to another comeback victory, 13-10, over the Chicago Bears. “And after that I just want to thank my teammates and coaches.”

It was Tebow’s third overtime victory, and fourth straight when trailing at the two-minute warning, even as he moved the Broncos to an incredible position of sole possession of the AFC West lead with an 8-5 record.

The Broncos’ win on Sunday can be described as breathtaking. They were shut out for almost 58 minutes and down 10-0 as the two-minute warning approached. In the first three quarters, Tebow completed just three of 16 passes, but in the fourth quarter and overtime, he was 18 for 24.

However, it was not Tebow alone. “I think my teammates make me look a lot better than I am,” he said at the press conference after the game, as transcribed by Denver Post. “They really stepped up and came up with some huge plays, and I’m so proud of them.”

About Matt Prater, who forced overtime with a 59-yard field goal and won the game with a 51-yarder, Tebow said, “You can’t say enough about Prater and how clutch he is and how much he means to our team. He’s a great guy and a great person and a great player, and I’m proud that he’s on our team.”

Asked if the team thought they were going to lose during the fourth quarter, Tebow said it looked disappointing but they still believed. “Obviously, I thought we had opportunities – we had opportunities for the lead – so it was disappointing we were down 10-0. But great things are only possible if you’re under very tough circumstances. That was a great comeback for this team, and it was led by our defense and coaches and a team that constantly believes.”

Tebow also said that more than victory it’s playing well and in the right spirit that matters. “I think this has just been a great season, and I’m proud to be on a team with a bunch of guys who are high-character, coaches that are high-character, and however it ends I know I’m … going to [be] proud of all those guys and proud of the effort we put forth.”

Four months ago when his critics cast doubts on his promotion as the starting quarterback, questioning his confidence that relies on his beliefs, Tebow said they didn’t know “what’s inside me.” And his Facebook wall carried a verse from the Bible, Joshua 1:19: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The victories Tebow is leading seem to be speaking for him.
