'Tekken 7' News & Updates: Possible Release Date, Other Details Revealed; No More Cross-Platform Gameplay?

Perhaps one of the hugest fighting video game franchises around is the "Tekken" series. With the upcoming seventh iteration being highly anticipated, several details have come up to excite all the fans waiting for its release.

Possible Release Details

No leak could possibly excite anticipating fans more than the release date of the upcoming "Tekken 7." It was revealed on Twitter, via the user Wonkey, that the seventh iteration of the popular game franchise will be coming on February 2017. He had cited a fairly credible source for this leak.

However, no official statement yet supporting this claim has been released by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game's developer and publisher. Earlier reports had predicted that "Tekken 7" will be officially available in early 2017, though no exact month or date had been previously reported. Some fans have also been skeptical of the Twitter claim, so they are still waiting for Bandai Namco's official word.

No Cross-Platform Gaming?

While almost all games released in the past few years have all had gameplays compatible with at least two gaming platforms, word is going around that "Tekken 7" would possibly not feature cross-platform gameplay. This move was later explained by game producer Katsuhiro Harada that this feature had always been taken advantage of by the players to cheat their way into winning a match.

This is especially true for the PC gamers, with the additional security risks of possible hacking and data mining. These scenarios could then jeopardize the overall sales of "Tekken 7," along with the company's reputation. However, Harada revealed that cross-platform play could be possible between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

DLC All the Way

As if the fact that "Tekken 7" is already close to being officially released is not enough, fans are treated with another great news. Harada had also revealed that chances look great for a downloadable content being released for "Tekken 7."

He supported this by saying that fighting games, such as "Tekken 7," should always be released as packages, allowing players to enjoy for an unknown yet considerable amount of time. Also, if the players are already done with that installment, then Bandai Namco should be releasing something new to appease all its fans.

PlayStation 4 Pro and VR Support?

In addition to all the reportedly supported gaming platforms, game designer Michael Murray had also revealed that "Tekken 7" will be supporting the PlayStation 4 Pro soon. He stated, however, that the development team is still undecided about porting the game into the new console, but has given the assurance that it will happen. Support for PlayStation VR is also still being explored for the mechanics of "Tekken 7."
