Telltale Games Is Bringing 'The Walking Dead: Season 3' Back In 2016

Developer Telltale Games has been doing well with its "Walking Dead" game series since it released Season 1 back in 2012, when it introduced the episodic survival video game to players on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Mac. Since then, the game has developed two seasons, each season with five episodes. Season 1 also featured downloadable content. Season 3 was announced to be in development in June 2014, during the E3. After this, however, Telltale has been mum about when the third season is arriving, until recently.

In an interview with Mashable, Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner shared that they are eyeing a late 2016 release for Season 3. He also said that they are taking an "unexpected approach" to the next season, considering what fans of the series have been clamoring for. According to him, the third season will try to "tie together all the possible threads" without being "so obvious."

Season 2 featured many twists and turns in the story, as well as different possible story endings. The player's choices ultimately dictated how the story will end for the game's heroine "Clementine." Given this, Telltale has to find the right approach to the start of the third season that will not simply be picking up where the story left off in Season 2.

Season 3, Bruner hinted will "allow people who maybe haven't played the first two seasons to come in and get up to speed really quickly. But it definitely respects, honors and facilitates all of the various end points that Season 2 had."

According to the report, Season 3 will also introduce a new feature that will allow players to access data from their previous games through the use of cloud services. When the game came out in 2012, this technology was not as well developed, but with today's cloud technologies, players can save their game choices and access them later in the cloud.
