'Terminator 5 Genisys' Release Date, Plot News: Picture Features Redesigned T-800 Robot

Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Terminator: Genisys" is one of this year's anticipated sequels. Though fans still have months before the movie opens, recent spoiler reports indicate that the waiting could certainly be worth it. Here's what we heard.

A revamped T-800 endoskeleton with a steely barrel chest and glowing red eyes was unveiled and labeled to as the "geekiest" of the year by USA Today.

The hi-tech robot would still have its signature looks of glowing-red eyes but it looks like the designers opted to integrate minimalistic approach on its body figure as it is now thinner and "fitter."

The new design apparently pays homage to the first T-800 featured in the in original "Terminator" films.

As for the movie, "Terminator: Genisys" will be the start of a new trilogy in the time-travel, action-packed fiction. At the same time, it will introduce an alternative timeline to James Cameron's classic.

USA Today went on to say that while the premise would still involve Skynet preying on "fear of a nuclear Armageddon in the 1980s," the upcoming film will offer a more modern take on the scenario by "taking advantage of our dependence on technology."

"If you look down at every single person who's on a smartphone, those technologies could actually be used to hand over the keys to Skynet to be able to drive your life," producer David Ellison said.

"For this one, we tried to couch the threat of the machine in things that we're more a part of and afraid of," director Alan Taylor added.

"Terminator: Genisys" is slated to open in theaters in July 2015.
