'Terminator 6' Release Date, Latest News: 'Deadpool' Director Tim Miller On Board to Direct
After hitting some snags in its production, it seems like things are finally falling into place for the "Terminator" franchise. A few days ago, reports came out that "Deadpool" director Tim Miller has been tapped to direct the sixth installment in the series.
Miller was first linked to the project back in January, when James Cameron was confirmed to produce. When "Terminator 6" was first announced, many were excited for the project because Cameron was reported to be on board. For the past 26 years, most of the films under the franchise did not fare well at the global box office. The last time it was able to do well was with "Terminator 2," the last "Terminator" movie Cameron got involved in.
Now that Cameron will be busy with the next "Avatar" movie in the coming months, Miller will be the one to take the helm. According to reports, Skydance quietly made the announcement about the "Deadpool" director's role in the movie via a recent social media post. In the said post, the production company promoted a screening for "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and confirmed that the event would be attended by Miller and Cameron, who will talk about their upcoming "Terminator 6" collaboration.

Since the next movie in the "Terminator" franchise is still two years away from release, not much is known yet on what it will offer to fans. However, early spoilers for the upcoming film suggest that it will venture into the beginning of Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 character. It may also give details on the actual human prototype on which the T-800 models were based on.
Talking about the plot of "Terminator 6," Cameron said in a previous Q&A portion with TheArnoldFans: "You got to ask yourself, 'Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold?' There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype."
"Terminator 6" is expected to premiere in 2019.
