Texas Rangers Trade Rumors 2016: Cesar Ramos Agrees to Minor League Deal

Left-hander Cesar Ramos had a decent performance for the Los Angeles Angels last season, but it apparently wasn't enough to convince them to keep him for next season. As soon as the Angels declined to offer him a contract, the Rangers came in and offered him a minor-league contract, which included an invitation to spring training.

The Mexican-American pitcher posted a 2.75 ERA while appearing in 52 innings out of the bullpen. He also carries a career 3.70 ERA while appearing in 251 games. Although the 31-year-old only has 10 career starts to boast in the major league, he may well be used for middle relief in the Rangers rotation. Aside from that, there's also a possibility that he ends up competing for a spot in the regular rotation, depending on his performance.

The invitation to the major league spring training might be the best thing in this deal with Texas because Ramos will get the chance he needs to prove he belongs in the majors. Of course, it would be easier said than done because of the current pitching rotation for the club. He will most likely be prepped as a starter or at least a long reliever during spring training. Jake Diekman is expected to be the primary left-hander in the Texas bullpen in spring, while there will also be several relievers who are left-handers competing for a spot, including Sam Freeman and Alex Claudio.

Aside from the Angels, he also had relief appearances for Tampa Bay. His stats in his stint with the Angels though don't really increase his value, wherein the team was 16-49 when he played, but it should be quite unfair to label him as bad luck. He comes in equipped with a 90-mph sinking fastball and slider. He's a capable veteran who still has a lot left in the tank at the age of 31.
