It's hard to believe that 9/11 was already 12 years ago; for many of us that's one of the most vivid and visceral memories we have.
But sometimes it is still astonishing to reflect on the courage shown that day. Take the case of Welles Crowther. The 24-year-old worked as a trader in the World Trade Center but on Sept. 11 redefined his identity when he saved dozens of lives -- and lost his own. He was later found buried under the rubble.
