Cole Considers Future with Alison in 'The Affair' Season 4

Cole's (Joshua Jackson) illicit affair with his ex-wife, Alison (Ruth Wilson), will continue in the upcoming season of "The Affair."

Showtime has recently renewed the show for another season, with the new episodes expected to tackle Cole and Alison's unfinished storylines. During the last finale, only Noah's (Dominic West) and Helen's (Maura Tierney) parts were featured. The author reunited with his French professor, Juliette (Irène Jacob), and reconnected with his daughter, Whitney (Julia Goldani Telles). Helen, on the other hand, seems to have gotten back together with her boyfriend, Vic (Omar Metwally). It appears as though the Holloways have sorted out their problems after years of fights and misunderstandings.

As for Cole and Alison, they have yet to decide what they really want in their lives. The last time they were seen in the series, Cole was telling Alison that he wanted their affair to end. He said he did not want to hurt Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno) anymore. Still, Cole cannot seem to help himself as he continues to seek Alison's presence. Alison wanted Cole to return to her and make their family complete. Little Joanie deserved to have both her mother and father under the same roof, but the situation was complicated. Reports claim that Alison and Cole will continue to see each other secretly until Luisa eventually gets wind of the fact that her husband is cheating on her.

Meanwhile, although Noah seems to be happy with how his life has changed, the last scene hints that everything is still not all right in his world. He realized that he has nowhere to go after leaving his family. Juliette did not return with him to the United States. She decided to stay in Paris. It remains unclear how they will manage their relationship if they are miles away from each other.

Spoilers predict that the couple will face more hurdles in season 4. The question on whether Noah's hallucinations are gone still remains unanswered. Will the next installment see another mental breakdown from him?

"The Affair" season 4 is rumored to return late 2017.
