'The Ambassador's Wife' TV Series Cast News, Update: Anne Hathaway to Headline the Adaptation

Hollywood A-lister Anne Hathaway will be spearheading the project of bringing the TV series adaptation of Jennifer Steil's novel "The Ambassador's Wife," TV Guide reports.

According to the media outlet, which in turn cited TheWrap's report, the "Les Miserables" star will not only be headlining but will also be producing the limited series as well.

"The 'Ambassador's Wife' is an incredible story that pulls you in immediately and resonates with all of us based on the images and news headlines that are pervasive in our lives today," co-producer Mark Gordon (Criminal Minds) said in a statement (via TV Guide). "We are so fortunate to have Anne starring in this timely, gripping, and compassionate drama. She is in a league all her own and we cannot think of anyone who can better portray Steil's complex heroine."

The novel, which was released last month, is inspired to the true-to-life experiences of Steil and her marriage to the former U.K. ambassador to Yemen, Timothy Torlot. Five years ago, Torlot had become the target of a suicide bomb attack. This prompted the family to go to Jordan for protection.

In the novel, readers will find Miranda (the titular character) living a comfortable yet confined life surrounded by her husband's security details until one day, she is kidnapped. The story tells the difficult choices that the protagonist has to make in hopes of returning to the arms of her beloved husband.

The project is yet to attract a network or studio but its upcoming cast member can't hide her excitement.

"Love this book so much I went and got the rights to it! It'll be coming soon to a T.V. near you," the 32-year-old "Princess Diaries" actress said in her latest Instagram post. "In the meantime, please pick it up - it's a great read."
