"The Bachelor" star Sean Lowe has picked his winner after giving away the final rose and proposing to Catherine during season 16's finale Monday night.
In the weeks leading up to the finale, Lowe narrowed down his search for love from 25 women down to just two bachelorettes, and Monday saw a very difficult decision.
The first finalist was 26-year-old Catherine, a graphic designer from Seattle, Washington. Then there was Lindsay, 24, a substitute teacher from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and both were ready to become Mrs. Lowe after meeting the bachelor.
On the two women, the Texas native expressed his struggle with the choice.
"I'm madly in love with two women, and I don't know which direction it will go," Lowe said during the final episode.
Throughout what ABC referred to as a "bombshell finale," fans were on the edge of their seats. The night started with both women meeting Lowe's family, including his father, mother, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew.
Then, Lowe spent time with each finalist one-on-one, "searching for a sign" as to which one he should choose.
"I can see a long happy future with Catherine, and I can see a long and happy future with Lindsay. They both deserve the best," added the bachelor. "I just woke up this morning and I knew there was a woman that I couldn't live without."
The emotional finale ended with Lowe selecting a ring to propose to the winner with at the end of the episode. He offered the cushion-cut pave diamond ring to Catherine.
However happy Lowe was to make a decision about Catherine, Lowe struggled to explain his goodbye to Lindsay during an emotional parting.
As for the moments leading up to the finale, the bachelor shared his gratitude for fans.
"My time as the bachelor is just about up," Lowe posted to Twitter on Monday. "I'm so thankful for all the love and support everyone has shown me. See ya tonight!"
