'The Bachelor' Sean Lowe: Season 17 Preview (VIDEO)

ABC's "The Bachelor" will return for a 17th season in 2013 and a newly released extended preview suggests that viewers should expectrecurring cattiness and drama amongst the news contestants.

New "Bachelor" Sean Lowe, who previously competed for "Bachelorette" Emily Maynard's heart during season eight of the female spin off show, was left heartbroken when the single mom eliminated him during episode 9. However the 28-year-old Christian model is getting a second shot at love and his journey appears to be anything but easy.

Twenty four contestants are competing for Lowe's heart, and as expected, the rising tension triggers arguments, and in one clip an ambulance is called when it all becomes too much for one emotional contestant.

Lowe, who describes himself as a simple man with strong faith on his personal Twitter page, previously expressed the qualities that he is seeking in a mate.

"He's not looking for a Southern belle per se, but he's looking for a lady: someone who respects herself and her family," the show's host, Chris Harrison, told Us magazine in October before adding that Lowe is strictly trying to avoid "crazy" types.

Despite having narrowed down his preferences to ABC producers, Lowe may be in for a shock upon learning who some of this season's contestants really are. During one clip, he is seen engaged in a heated confrontation with one of the contestant's boyfriends, presumably who he knew nothing about.

Colorado-based Leasing Consultant Tierra LiCausi appears to be a potential mate for Lowe upon face value, although revealing footage suggests that she may have a personality similar to season 16 villain Courtney Robertson.

"She wants the rose, she doesn't want Sean!" one contestant is overheard saying about LiCausi shortly after blasting her as a "b----!"

Other preview clips show blatant scheming among conniving contestants, nasty comments and excessive crying from various contestants. At one point, even Lowe is seen shedding a tear.

The show, which will likely feature a marriage proposal after the winner is chosen, will premiere season 17 on Jan. 7.
