The Best New Apps for Children: Tiggly Adventure, PhotoMath and Disco Fingers

These days, finding age-appropriate apps is harder than ever as some supposedly kid-friendly apps, especially games, may contain violence or inappropriate content for young children. Moreover, finding apps that could help children learn is definitely something that should be looked into by parents, as more and more kids spend a lot of time using tablets or phones.

Here is a list of apps that are kid-friendly and parent-approved:

Tiggly Addventure
Free
This is a math app for young children aged three or older, and it introduces them to simple sums through the adventure of its hero, Tiggly.

PhotoMath
Free
Technically, this isn't for kids but more for their parents. Parents who get stumped by their child's math homework will find this app very useful. Simply use your smartphone or tablet to take a photo of the math problem, and the app will tell you the answer. It's best to install this on the parent's device as kids might try to take advantage of this when doing homework.

Peppa Pig's Activity Maker
Free
The app has 32 different activities that kids and parents can do together, indoors and outdoors, and not always on the device itself.

Disco Fingers
Free
Older children who love music will like this app. Using Disco Fingers, they can make original music which they can use as ring tones.

Scribble Press
$2.99
Bring out your kids' inner author with this creative app. Scribble Press allows kids to author and illustrate as many books as they want, without using up any office supplies or paper in the process. The finished product can be shared on social media, but parents get to control that aspect. And for $10, you can have a hard copy of your child's masterpiece— perfect as a Christmas gift for the grandparents.
