The Crabb Family Nominated For Grammy
The efforts of the Crabb Family have all paid-off, sort of. Not in the winner’s circle yet but their album The Walk, released in April 2003 from Daywind Records, has won them a Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Southern/Country/Bluegrass Gospel Album” category.
Before receiving news of the nomination, Jason Crabb was ironically just talking to his friend how it would be wonderful to be nominated someday.
"I just sat there numb for about 30 minutes. I couldn't believe it," the 26-year-old vocalist says. "I'd never dreamed in a million years for this."

Jason is one of originally five brothers and sisters in The Crabb Family act: brothers Adam and Aaron and sister Kelly and Terah. Terah left the group last summer to spend more time with her husband.
Kelly says, "I'm just still in shock. It's beyond my wildest dreams."
Parents Gerald and Kathy saw the potential long before when they gave their children management rights near the same time The Walk was released.
"They worked so hard for 11 years straight. They were just ready for some time at home," says Kelly. "Dad wanted to concentrate on his songwriting, and my dad is an evangelist as well. There was more opportunity for him to do that. And I think they finally felt like we were old and mature enough to handle it."
The group’s music is based on Southern gospel but their musical style is unique and flexible.
"They began in the Southern market, and that core fan base is extremely important to them," Daywind director of marketing Susan Puckett says. "But if you listen to their music, even from the beginning, it's Crabb music. Some of their songs have black gospel leanings, the ballads are inspo and a few are AC. They do bluegrass, country and Southern. It's all over the place but easily identifiable as Crabb music."
"We want it to go to all genres of music," Jason says. "I really don't know what God has in store for us. Wherever he wants us, that's where we want to go."
What to expect from The Crabb Family in 2004: a new live album on Feb. 10 and a special live recording of Gerald with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir sometime in June.
