'The Flash' Season 3 News, Spoilers, Release Date: Official Synopsis of Upcoming Season Revealed, Barry Allen to Lose Powers

If only fans could run the equivalent distance of 16 days until DC Comics and CW's "The Flash" returns to the small screen for its third season, they would. But fortunately, the internet is always full to the brim with spoilers, news, and updates to tide Barry Allen's (played by Grant Gustin) supporters. The bad news: things aren't looking great for The Speedster in "The Flash" Season 3.

We last saw Barry Allen in Season 2, where he had created a portal into the past and at the scene of his mother's crime. He had intervened before the Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher) landed the fatal blow that should have killed his mother, subsequently creating a different timeline called the "Flashpoint" timeline.

Incidentally, "Flashpoint" is also the name of the premiere episode of "The Flash" Season 3. This alternate universe is much more favorable than Barry Allen's true timeline: there, his mother is alive and his father is out of jail. But he is also no longer The Flash, as another speedster, Kid Flash, is the new guy running around Central City. With his powers beginning to fade, he can finally ask Iris West out on a date as a normal person.

But things aren't always what they seem, as the official synopsis revealed that Barry Allen's continued delusions actually has serious consequences for everyone he left behind in his true universe. Though he'd trapped Reverse Flash into a cage, the former superhero will begin to lose his memories alongside his powers. His friends and family at Star Labs do not know who he is, and neither does Iris West herself.

What he thought was a perfect universe was a delusion as his old enemies were merely replaced by new ones. Barry Allen will be forced to decide whether he wants to stay normal or go back to being "The Flash."

Episode 3.01: 'Flashpoint' Spoilers

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Grant Gustin talked about Barry has yet to feel regret over his decision to cross over universes, as he's still stuck in the "bliss" of being reunited with his parents. However, he conceded that Barry Allen will soon realize how selfish his motivations were for staying behind, hinting that Barry may decide to return to his universe after all.

Until then, we can only hope to see "The Flash" return to Central City after all. "The Flash" will return on Oct. 4 on CW.
