'The Following' Season 2 Air Date and Spoilers: 'Different Tone and Feel This Year'

With season two of hit Fox show "The Following" set to premiere early this week, many fans are eager to know what this season will entail. For spoilers from "The Following creator Kevin Williamson and show star Shawn Ashmore, read on.

Shawn Ashmore, who plays Mike Weston on the show recently told Entertainment Weekly about his feelings on season two.

"What I really love about this season is that the ticking time clock of trying to find [Joe Carroll's son] Joey has been alleviated, and so ... you get to know these characters a little more. You see different dimensions and sides to every character, whether it's Joe Carroll, whether it's Emma, whether it's whoever. Everybody is given time to sort of shine," the actor said.

Show creator Kevin Williamson also spoke to Entertainment Weekly, explaining how the second season will defer from the first.

"I'm not so much in love with blood and guts [this season]. I'd rather be scary. ... I think the challenge for network television is how do you do that without ripping heads off and showing innards and things like that. That doesn't interest me anyway. I'm not going to pretend it's not scary and violent, because it is. It just has a different tone and feel to it this year," he said.

Williamson also said that this season will be a bit more character-focused.

"This story is told from a different starting place. It's a little bit more of a character thriller and a relationship thriller, if that makes sense; rather than a procedural FBI hunt them down thriller," the show creator said.

The season two premiere of "The Following" airs on Fox on Monday Jan. 27 at 9/8c.
