TVLine reported that fans will see more of Marissa Gold in the upcoming digital spinoff of "The Good Wife" after the producers tapped Steele to reprise her role as a full-fledged series regular. Steele captured the hearts of viewers as Marisa, Eli's blunt and intelligent daughter who was Alicia Florrick's (Julianna Margulies) former bodywoman.

Steele's character appeared in the second season of the legal-political drama series and returned in the sixth and seventh installment. Per Deadline, the upcoming digital-only offshoot of the series will see Marissa following the footsteps of Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi) and Robyn Burdine (Jess Weixler), the original series' tough yet sassy female investigators.

Marissa will begin in the spinoff as the brilliant yet scattered millennial who will work as Diane Lockhart's (Christine Baranski) secretary. She will later discover that she has a passion for investigating.

Casting Woes

Steele is the only non-series regular from the original show who joins the spinoff as a regular cast member. Robert and Michelle King, showrunners and executive producers, said that casting the 28-year-old actress for the series was complicated because of her limited availability due to the Broadway hit "The Humans."

News of Steele's casting came after the showrunners announced that Baranski will reprise her role in the new digital spinoff. Cush Jumbo will also return in the legal-political drama as Lucca Quinn.

Spinoff Spoilers: What to Expect

The digital spinoff of "The Good Wife" will pick up one year after the events of its final episode in May. Diane will find her reputation being tarnished by an enormous financial scam. The throes of a financial crisis will force her out of Lockhart & Lee and team up with Lucca at one of the pre-eminent law firms in Chicago.

Although Margulies is not yet set to join the spinoff, the showrunners of the series hinted to TVLine that her character Alicia might appear in the upcoming spinoff. Aside from bringing back familiar faces from the original drama, the Kings also teased that they might introduce new characters.

"The Good Wife" spinoff will premiere in February on CBS All Access, the network's SVOD and live streaming platform. The new season will have 10 episodes.

The original series premiered on CBS on September 22, 2009. It ended its colorful run on May 8, 2016 after seven seasons.
