'The Incredibles 2' Plot Rumors: Director Says Sequel Will Focus On People, Not Their Powers

It has been 11 years since "The Incredibles" was shown and just recently, fans of the superhero family were excited to hear that a sequel is in the works, with Brad Bird directly involved in its making. In an interview with IGN, Bird made some interesting revelations about the direction that the sequel will take.

In the interview, he cited that he needed to find middle ground in terms of developing a sequel. He originally intended the first movie to be just the one movie, but with the current trend of following up old movies with sequels, it took him some time to figure out what the sequel's central theme will be.

He offered this hint about this new direction: "the powers themselves are not that interesting, it's the people that are interesting and how they react to having those powers... I'm basically sticking with the approach that I had on the movie we did, which is that it's really about the characters than it is about bursting through walls or something like that."

In another report in Collider, Bird has confirmed that he is almost done with the movie's script. He said, "I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it." In the same report, he confirmed the direction they are taking, which is focusing on characters and relationships, rather than the superpowers being wielded by the characters.

An earlier report in Movie News Guide cited two rumors that the movie's producers may be choosing from. The first option is that Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack will be shown still as kids and their superhero parents trying to live life as superheroes and as parents. A second option however is being touted more often, which involves ageing the characters a bit, with Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl taking a break from being superheroes, leaving their kids to take on this responsibility. Another rumor also talks about Jack-Jack exploring his "dark" side, which was briefly shown in the first movie.

The sequel does not have a confirmed release date yet.
