It has been an up and down battle for the fans of "The Last of Us 2." One minute, the game is up and running in development and already given a release date. The next minute, news about its cancellation is all over the web. So, what is the real deal with this game? Here is everything we know so far.

Suspended, Not Cancelled

Lately, there have been rumors rounding the internet that "The Last of Us 2" has been cancelled by the game's developers, Naughty Boy. This rumor started when game writer and director Neil Druckmann had stated in a report that the company is exclusively focusing all its resources on finishing the single player downloadable contend for "Uncharted 4."

However, this news does not take anything away from "The Last of Us 2." As previously reported, the sequel to the hit action adventure horror survival video game is still set on 2021. Given the long five years of waiting time, fans and gaming geeks should expect actual progress with the game's development only at around 2018.

Possible Plot may be Religious

As reported earlier, Druckmann had previously stated that his next project for the PlayStation 4 would be hugely based on religious themes and of destiny. This now gives an immense amount of possible plot and storyline development ideas for "The Last of Us 2." This now gives a concrete assurance as for the future development of the game, as it is definitely the director's next project after the "Uncharted 4."

Given the game's horror survival nature, "The Last of Us 2" may be featuring a cult with some sacrificial and fanatic tendencies. It may also deal with the supernatural elements, with this theme being heavily influenced by religion and destiny itself.

Integrating Diversity

Druckmann had also reportedly stated that he wanted to embark on the matter of incorporating more diversity into the storyline of "The Last of Us 2." This is something that Druckmann had already touched in the first "The Last of Us" installment, by introducing an LGBT character as the game's second main protagonist. This move was greatly praised by reviewers, and Druckmann aims to delve into the idea further.

This idea of diversity has also been delegated to the creative team of "The Last of Us 2." The lead concept artist of the game has reportedly been pushing for all those involved in the development of "The Last of Us 2" to integrate elements of diversity more. This would then include the characters' skin, race, gender, and maybe even religious beliefs, given the potential plot.
