'The Leftovers' Season 2 Cast News, Rumors: TV Show to Change Cast and Location for Next Season

Recent news about the upcoming sophomore season of the hit rapture drama from HBO, "The Leftovers" suggested that since the show has already exhausted the material from the single book to which it was based from, the showrunners might opt to make some huge changes on the TV program including its cast and location.

Show creator and executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, are now facing some "interesting creative choices" in order to advance the popular show, according to IGN. As said, these "choices" might include ticking off some names in the cast member's list and scout for other locations.

"I have learned that a large portion of the fourteen regular cast members in Season 1 — virtually all in supporting roles — won't be returning in Season 2 as the series is undergoing a creative reboot, moving the setting from the fictional town of Mapleton, New York to a new location," Nellie Andreeva of Deadline stated.

Andreeva went on to say that those who will be reprising their roles are only the following:

  • Justin Theroux (as Kevin Garvey Jr.)
  • Amy Brenneman (as Kevin's wife, Laurie)
  • Margaret Qualley (as Kevin's teenage daughter)
  • Chris Zylka (Laurie's son from another man)
  • Carrie Coon (as Nora Dust)
  • Christopher Eccleston (as Matt Jamison)

"As Season 2 is still being mapped out, I hear things are still in flux and there Christopher-Eccleston-and-Justin-Theroux-in-The-Leftovers-Season-1-Episode-5 is a possibility for a couple of more regulars to come back," the Deadline report went on to say. "I hear Liv Tyler is returning and Ann Dowd is also likely to continue."

"The Leftovers" will return on air to HBO summer of 2015.
