'The Leftovers' Season 6 Release Date, Plot News: HBO Releases New Teaser for Final Season

HBO has recently released a new teaser for the third and final season of the TV series "The Leftovers."

The 60-second teaser shows Kevin (Justin Theroux) and Nora (Carrie Coon) boarding a plane to Melbourne, Australia. The scene seems very tense, with both characters receiving unpleasant looks from immigration and TSA officials. Although boarding the plane makes up most of the trailer, there are also a few glimpses of the terror that presumably awaits them in Australia.

Aside from Theroux and Coon, the cast of "The Leftovers" season 3 includes Amy Brenneman, Kevin Carroll, Scott Glenn, Christopher Eccleston, Regina King, Lindsay Duncan, Janel Moloney, Jovan Adepo, Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Margaret Qualley, Liv Tyler and Chris Zylka.

The series is a TV adaptation of Tom Perrotta's 2011 novel of the same name, and is created by Perotta and showrunner Damon Lindelof ("LOST," "Prometheus"). Its third and final season is composed of eight episodes and is set to premiere on Sunday, April 16.

In an interview with TV Line during the Television Critics Association winter press tour last January, Coon expressed her confidence in the final season of "The Leftovers."

"In my humble opinion, the ending is satisfying," Coon said. "There are a lot of directions the show could've taken, and, I feel in my Nora Durst heart, that they chose the right one. I approve of the direction the show went with," she added.

Series showrunner Lindelof also previously teased that the third season of "The Leftovers" may not have the same feel as the earlier seasons which fans are familiar with. Besides the new Australian locale, the show is also "ending, and that's infusing it with a certain degree of energy that's different, perhaps, than the previous seasons."

"The Leftovers" season 3's executive producers are Lindelof, Perrotta, Mimi Leder, Tom Spezially, Gene Kelly, Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey. The show is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.

"The Leftovers" season 3 is scheduled to debut on Sunday, April 16, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
