'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: 'Jane is Getting Closer to The Target'

The CBS hit drama "The Mentalist" is continuously keeping fans guessing as to what will happen next. Providing some insight, and some spoilers, is executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi. Read on to see what he has to say about what is going to happen in the sixth season of the hit show.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, Szentgyorgyi discussed the changes in Jane's character, and his relationship in comparison with Red John. It seems that Jane finally has the upper hand on Red John.

"Ever since the finale of Season 5, when Red John apparently magically reached into Jane's head and killed a happy memory and also figured out who the seven suspects were on Jane's board, it felt like Red John had gotten a step up on Jane. This episode gave Jane a chance to get that step back by answering at least one of those two questions: How did he find that happy memory of Jane's? He found it by going to Jane's psychiatrist and using her as a way into his mind," Szentgyorgyi told TV Guide.

But will Jane be able to use his upper hand to his advantage? Szentgyorgyi elaborates.

"Jane is definitely more energized and he's going to continue to be more energized with each passing episode, simply because he's getting closer. It's not an open hunt anymore. There's a limited number of targets, and with each turn of the plot, he is getting closer and closer to the true target. There's a strong sense that the advantage in the hunt is shifting to Jane's side," Szentgyorgyi said.

Fans are also wondering how Jane's changed power dynamic with Red John will affect his relationship with Lisbon. Szentgyorgyi provides some answers to that concern.

"He feels an enormous amount of protectiveness over Lisbon and is deeply disturbed by what happened to her. But I think he also feels confident that, if they follow the course he lays out, she'll be alright. I think if he really thought his pursuit of Red John was going to risk Lisbon's life, he would find some other way to pursue Red John," the executive producer said.
