Fans of Shonda Rhimes will be happy to know that the influential producer will be showcasing her acting chops in season 3 of "The Mindy Project" as well. According to TVLine, Rhimes will be playing herself when she guest stars on the show.

Rhimes created hit shows such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal," and she is set to debut a new series entitled "How to Get Away With Murder" in the fall. She joins other previously announced guest stars such as Allison Tolman and "Cheers" alum Rhea Pearlman, who will play the role of Danny's mother.

Fans who have witnessed Mindy deal with her love life issues know that she is ready for some romance on the third season. It can be recalled that the second season ended with Mindy and Danny kissing at the top of the Empire State Building, and what could be more romantic than that?

FOX has released a teaser about the couple who are about to get intimate for the first time, and it seems like there's going to be a lot of awkward moments that are about to happen on the first episode alone.

"The Mindy Project" Season 3 will premiere on Sept. 16 on FOX.
