Kotaku was one of the first to report about the upcoming Microsoft gaming console. And, according to the sources, we may be talking about not just one console, but a pair of them. What is more interesting is that a separate Polygon report substantiates the rumor citing their own sources.

For 2016, gamers could be looking at a slimmer, more compact version of the Xbox One to be released. Come 2017, another console will hit the shelves, this time, a more powerful successor to the current model.

Cheaper and Slimmer Model Due for an August 2016 Release

The trimmed version of the Xbox One will not only make a cutback in its size, but also with its price. And according to the Kotaku people, an announcement regarding the compact model could be made at the upcoming E3 this June.

The console, which will have an August 2016 release, will be 40 percent smaller, and could feature a 4K video support and a larger 2TB hard drive, sources say.

The New box One is More Powerful Than Sony's Playstation 4 Neo

Rumor has it that the Xbox One due to be released in 2017 will outmuscle the PS4 Neo in terms of sheer power. While the new Sony console will deliver 4.14 teraflops of peak performance number, the Xbox One 2017 model will be even more impressive at 6 teraflops.

Microsoft and Oculus Partnership

And, with the latest rumors of the new Xbox One having more powerful capability than its Playstation counterpart, another exciting development is being passed around. The upcoming Xbox One could support the Oculus Rift on its own, which is not an easy task to undertake even for most PCs these days.

The new Microsoft console's more powerful technical specs can make all this a reality. And, the company is now trying to forge a partnership with Oculus, according to sources.

All Part of Microsoft's bigger Project Helix Masterplan

The release of the two consoles is part of a bigger business strategy by the company to converge their two major brands, the Xbox and Windows. The masterplan, which is codenamed "Project Helix," could pave the way for more future games to be release on both platforms.
