'The Purge 3' Cast News: Frank Grillo in Final Negotiations to Reprise the Role of Leo Barnes
New casting update for the next installment of Universal, Blumhouse, and Platinum Dunes' action horror film franchise series, "The Purge," indicates the return of Frank Grillo as Leo Barnes.
The "Captain America: Winter Soldier" actor is in "final negotiations" for his reprisal in "Purge 3," according to Variety.
Franchise creator and director James DeMonaco is meanwhile confirmed to write and helm the latest sequel. Blumhouse boss Jason Blum is also producing the movie along with Michael Bay and Sebastien Lemercier, through their Platinum Dunes banner.
According to the publication, scheduling issues with his DirectTV series "Kingdom" nearly hindered Grillo's ability to return for the role. Insiders, however, told the site that "issues have been worked out," making the 50-year-old more viable for the upcoming project.
The "End of Watch" actor is also recently reported to have already finished shooting for Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" which he returns as Crossbones with stars Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as the titular superheroes, respectively.
Meanwhile, the 2014 film follows the life of Grillo's Barnes who sees the annual "Purge" night as an opportunity to exact his revenge on the person who killed his son.
The event which was founded by the New Founding Fathers of America in an alternate reality of the United States of America makes the committing of all crime legal, with some exception in the use of weapons. All police, fire, and medical emergency services from the government are shut down for 12 hours, from 7 p.m. till 7 a.m.
"The Purge 3" is slated to premiere on July 1, 2016.
