'The Strain' FX TV Series News: Vampire Drama Renewed for Season 2

FX's original vampire horror-drama TV series "The Strain" has been renewed for season 2, according to reports.

An official press release by FX indicates that the upcoming season will be comprised of 13 episodes. This followed after a relatively well-received airing of its first season's six episodes.

"We've never had any doubts about 'The Strain.' Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more," John Landgraf, the CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, told Variety. "It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace."

"We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale," he added.

Airing on Sunday nights, "The Strain" is based on the novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan. The story follows a team disease control experts who are called when a plane loaded with 206 corpses, lands at the JFK International Airport.

The plot progressed as lead character Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, an epidemiologist (Corey Stoll) and his crew discovered a viral outbreak that has the potential to overtake humanity.

Meanwhile, director del Toro and executive producer Carlton Cuse expressed their excitement about the renewal of the show.

"I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus!" the 49-year-old "Pan's Labyrinth" said.

"I am grateful for all the blood, sweat and tears (but mostly blood) given to the project by all involved, and I could not be more excited to continue telling this epic story," Cuse added.

"The Strain" season 1 is still ongoing and airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. on FX.
