'The Surge' updates: 14-minute gameplay footage offers glimpse of new limb-targeting system, dystopian environment

Deck13 and Focus Home have released the new "The Surge" gameplay footage, featuring the protagonist venturing into various battle scenarios and fighting his way through the complex. The new footage also offers a glimpse of the new aspects of the game when it arrives on PC and other consoles this year.

The 14-minute video also features game designer Adam Hetenyi as he sheds light on the different aspects of "The Surge," including the dystopian environments of the Abandoned Laboratories.

While the clip does not reveal much about the game since many of the adversaries featured have already appeared in previous trailers, it offers an idea of how "The Surge" has a striking resemblance with the original franchise from which it was inspired, although its setting heavily differs in terms of aesthetics.

In the new game, the limb-targeting system does not only allow players to attack enemies but also cut off parts of their bodies which they want to craft or fit out. The game also allows the protagonist to come across experiments built with security bots and nano-technology, making it difficult for him to succeed in his mission.

The footage also offers a glimpse of some of the attacks that players can use in the game, particularly those that can be done vertically and horizontally. Based on the clip, players can choose to parry, dodge, jump or duck while playing the game.

According to VG 24/7, survivors can either ask for help during the game or the game offers the player assistance. The game also gives extra rewards to gamers who accept missions, but players must be able to balance this with their desire to explore the innermost part of the complex.

"The Surge" is currently in development. It is set for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this May.
