'The Talos Principle' Gets 'Road to Gehenna' Expansion Pack on July 23

"The Talos Principle," a first-person puzzle video game that was launched in December 2014 via Steam, for Windows, Linux and OS X and for Android OS in May 2015, is getting its first expansion pack called "Road to Gehenna" on July 23. The critically-acclaimed and highly-rated game will get new puzzles and "new philosophy" with the coming expansion pack.

The game's developer, a Croatian company called Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital, announced the expansion pack. It will add four episodes to the title, which supposedly contains "the most challenging puzzles yet." In the "Road to Gehenna," the player returns as Uriel, Elohim's messenger who attempts to free trapped souls in a "hidden part of the simulation."

"The Talos Principle" is described as a "narrative-device puzzle game" which is first-person. Users play the role of a robot who seems to have a "seemingly human consciousness" and as a robot, they are tasked to explore several environments with over 120 puzzles. The game's setting ranges from sprawling greenery and ancient stone ruins, interspersed with futuristic technology.

Being called a highly philosophical game, it is said to feature a "philosophical storyline." The game takes its name from Talos, which is the name of a mechanical man in Greek mythology.

After the game was released in late 2014, there were reports that some users were able to obtain pirated copies of the game. The developer dealt with these pirates in their own way – players who obtained pirated copies found themselves trapped in the elevator with no way out in the game.

The expansion pack will only be initially available for Windows, Linux and OSX on July 23. No word on whether the Android OS version will get the expansion pack. As for the PlayStation 4 version, it will be announced on a later date after the release of the game's PS4 version sometime within the year.
