'The Trial' Amazon Studios Series Cast News, Update: Legal Drama Casts Maria Bello and 'Lost' Alum Tania Raymonde

Amazon Studios' upcoming legal drama series "The Trial" adds two more actors into the fray.

With the details published right over at The Hollywood Reporter, it was learned that Maria Bello and Tania Raymonde ("Lost") are set to appear opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the series co-written by "The Practice" scribes David E. Kelley and Jonathan Shapiro.

The story focuses on Thornton's character, Billy McBride, a "once respectable lawyer who was ousted from the high-profile firm he co-founded."

Now a shell of his former self, Billy can be found spending most of his days in the company of liquor. Other times, he works on those occasional cases passed on to him by his ex-wife Julie McBride (Bello). She was described in the publication as a "beautiful, brilliant and accomplished co-founding partner of a law firm who is successful professionally, but not personally after losing the love of her life, Billy." The character holds contempt on Billy for letting himself fall apart.

Billy's bleak professional life would be later on "reinvigorated" when a young lawyer named Lucy Kitteridge (Olivia Thirlby) arrives with a "wrongful death case."

Lucy came from the firm which Billy had previously worked for. The case she brings to him will ultimately lead Billy to compete with the person who fired him, Donald Cooper (William Hurt).

As for Raymonde, the actress will take on the role of Brittany Gold, "a likeable, smart and savvy working girl who is an old friend of Billy's." Gold worked for Billy as his legal secretary before she became a prostitute.

Bello's TV credits include her appearances on "ER," "Prime Suspect," and "Touch." Besides "Lost," Raymonde had also been involved on "Switched at Birth," "Cold Case," "Malcolm in the Middle," and "The Last Ship," just to name a few.

"The Trial" will be the streaming network's first straight-to-series order. David Semel ("Dawson's Creek") is said to be directing the pilot while Kelley and Shapiro will be exec producing.
