'The Vampire Diaries' Comic-Con Updates: Nina Dobrev to Appear in Season 7?

When the cast members of the CW's hit supernatural TV drama series "The Vampire Diaries" came over to the MTV San Diego Comic Con this weekend, one of the most prevalent questions asked was how the show will move on without Nina Dobrev's Elena Gilbert.

As fans could recall, Dobrev's fan-favorite character was written off in Season 6 by putting her under the spell of a deep sleep. Her mere existence is wholly dependent on Bonnie's (Kat Graham) life and death situation. She was laid in a coffin for safe keeping by her friends and boyfriend, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).

Somerhalder, who was present during the occasion, reminded the audience that Elena is still around.

"She's still there, she's in a casket, she's having a nap," the actor said. His co-actor, Paul Wesley (on-screen brother Stefan), added that "[Characters] die and come back. It's like Jesus!"

Candice Accola meanwhile gave a much substantial reply to the query which consequently hinted Elena's return to the series.

"I think that's what's fun about this series. You never know when characters are going to leave, you never know when they're going to come back. That's been a constant for six seasons, now. So the fact that, for such a big departure, that it is kind of left open-ended, is really true to the show," the actress, who plays Caroline in the show, explained.

Gilbert, on the other hand, spoke on behalf of her character's reaction to the events.

"I think Bonnie feel guilty for a lot of things. She feels guilty about her grandma, she feels guilty about Elena, I'm sure. She's had to make sacrifices: even when she made sacrifices she thought she needed to, she ended up losing a lot of herself. I think she's finally in this 'I'm going to do what I need to do for myself' place, and I really like that," she told Digital Spy.
