'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers: New Season Features 'The Originals' Crossover

"The Vampire Diaries" show creator Julie Plec has confirmed that she will be making her directorial debut in the upcoming season of the hit CW show. Plec shared the reason why it took her so long to get behind the camera.

"I was convinced I would be dreadful at it," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"I directed a school musical in college and it was being so terrible at directing that made me realize I was such a good producer and that put me on my first career path. Then I had to remind myself that I also thought I would positively never be a writer because I thought I was a terrible writer for years…And then I actually started writing and thought, 'Oh actually, I'm pretty good at this, at least intermittently good at this.'"

Plec has been leading "The Vampire Diaries" team for five years now and is also the executive producer of the show's spin off, "The Originals." The show runner said that her years as a producer have prepared her for the new task.

"The beauty of television, much more than feature films, is that when you are the show runner, you make all those decisions anyway … Everybody seemed really excited to see what I could do behind the camera. So I'm gonna dive in and see how it goes," said Plec.

The executive producer also revealed that the new season will feature a crossover with "The Originals." Though Plec did not share any details about it, she did mention that Alaric will not be involved in it.

"It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season, and I can't tell you what or who or when because it hasn't been shot yet, but things are looking good," said Plec to Entertainment Weekly.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 2
