Some of the recent spoilers for "The Walking Dead" season 4 leaked out by the show's creator Robert Kirkman hinted at Rick possibly dying in the last episode.
He recently discussed the fate of all the characters during a Reddit AMA where Rick's name came up.
"In my opinion, I feel like characters ripen like fruit. So while I wouldn't say the more popular a character is the more likely they are to die, they do have to reach a certain level of popularity before they've earned the death," he said. "No character is too popular to die."
Kirkman was asked is Rick Grimes was safe and replied by saying "absolutely not, although when I look in Andrew Lincoln's piercing blue eyes I feel safe."
He previously stated that Grimes might not even survive the entire comic book series. Kirkman was also asked to describe the season 4 finale and he answered that with one word: "savage."
"People are going to be talking about this one," he wrote. "The cliffhanger at the end of season 4 will make the wait between seasons 4 and 5 the hardest wait we've ever had. Enjoy!"
"The Walking Dead" is based on a comic book series penned by Kirkman. The show follows the comic, but deviates in certain areas. In parts where the comic chooses to kill someone, the show might choose kill off a different character. They also keep the essence of certain characters from the comic on the show, but might change their gender or name.
The season 4 finale airs this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. It will wrap up a season that has introduced some new characters, given more background to old ones, and finally dealt with one of the main antagonists, the Governor.
