'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Trailer Boasts Excitement, War and a Bittersweet Reunion (VIDEO)

The comic-con "Walking Dead" season 5 trailer hit the internet this week and shows off a violent, action packed continuation to the series.

The new episodes pick up where last year left off with our heroes being held captive by the deceptively hospitable Terminus gang. Rick and company are being kept in a railway cart when he blurts out the words "they're screwing with the wrong people." The rest of the season appears to be an all-out war between both factions with the heroes eventually leaving for D.C. to discover if there really is a cure for the disease that turned most of the U.S. population into "walkers."

Other notable things to look out for in the trailer are zombies sporting hipster glasses and a slew of body-flinging explosions. Series executive producer Scott Gimple recently commented on this upcoming season.

"When they lost the prison, once they lost Hershel, all bets were off," he said. "I think they found out that you can't come back from the things you've done. You have to live with them. But the things you've done make you incredibly formidable. Everyone who is alive has done unspeakable things. Who do they become? What are they going to be? This season will define who they become."

"Walking Dead" hit the ground running when it debuted in 2010 gaining praise from critics and viewers. By the third season the show was a true hit garnering AMC's highest ratings for any show. However, some fans felt that the writing took a dip when Frank Darabont left the show after season 2. This upcoming season looks like it's trying to recapture some of the magic that made the show the phenomenon it is today.

Season 4 mostly focused on character development as the second half consisted of separate storylines for most of the protagonists. This year the gang is finally all back together.
