'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Spoilers, News and Release Date: New Promo Shows King Ezekiel Of 'The Kingdom,' Will He Help Save Rick and Co. from Negan?

Heads up, "The Walking Dead" fans. The popular AMC zombie series just released a new set of promos just before its Season 7 premiere this October. Fans are now formally introduced to King Ezekiel (played by Khary Payton), the tiger-petting ruler of the Kingdom.

"Welcome to The Kingdom," greeted King Ezekiel in the new "The Walking Dead" promo. He welcomed Rick's weary gang as he pets his tiger, Shiva. King Ezekiel enters the series at an especially troubled time, as the gang is currently under the thumb of the oppressive Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The official synopsis of "The Walking Dead" revealed that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang will be "broken, fractured, and bereaved," as they become subjected to Negan's inhuman rule, which they've already witnessed firsthand during last season's finale.

But just like in the source material "The Walking Dead" comics, Rick and the group will soon rise against Negan and the Saviors' tyranny. Ezekiel shares the same hatred towards Negan, and may be able to help them in their fight against him.

Morgan and Tara

"The Walking Dead" Season 7 promos also showed Morgan Jones (Lennie James) saying he can't let someone "die out there." He's probably referring to Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), who was seen battling a Savior in the penultimate episode of "The Walking Dead" Season 6. Tara is also seen being a badass in this action-packed promo.

Recap of Season 6

The series will be picking up from "The Walking Dead" Season 6 cliffhanger ending. Negan had whacked one of the 12 members of the gang off-camera with his trusty spiked bat, Lucille. While viewers have yet to find out who the unlucky victim was, the most popular theory is that it was Glenn Close (Steven Yeuhn). This is based on the source material comic books, where Glenn dies at the hands of Negan in "The Walking Dead" landmark 100th issue.

Another theory is that it's Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glenn's current lover. The speculations began when showrunner Scott Gimple talked about "deaths," plural, instead of one in a previous interview. If it were true, then "The Walking Dead" would certainly be pulling off a cruel twist, since Maggie is pregnant with Glenn's child.

What to expect from Season 7

According to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, fans will get to know Negan more in "The Walking Dead" Season 7. He said they will understand why he became the way he is, starting from before the zombie apocalypse began.

Excited for Season 7? The first part of the 16-episode "The Walking Dead" season will premiere on Oct. 23.
