'The Winds of Winter' Novel Could Be Delayed by New Direction & Rumored Plot Twist

George R. R. Martin's "The Winds of Winter" may look to be taking its sweet time to get some progress done on its manuscripts, but it could be the result of the author using the time to explore some unexpected twists that will keep the book fresh and unpredictable.

Fans of "A Song of Ice and Fire" on Reddit have come up with a somewhat plausible theory on a possible direction toward which George R. R. Martin is shifting the new book, according to speculations from Starz Post. As much as the impatient fans would sometimes attribute the book's delays to Martin's seeming lack of focus on finishing up the novel, the Reddit user who started the thread explores another possible reason for the delay.

In a work as intricate as "A Song of Fire and Ice," with its multitude of characters, factions, and creatures, the tangle of plotlines could lead to writing issues that the author will have to contend with to keep the story consistent and without loopholes. A specific issue, the write-up claims, could lie in the twist that Martin has written for "The Winds of Winter."

George R. R. Martin had a recent chat with IGN, and among other things, the author made the claim that he had another idea for a plotline twist for "The Winds of Winter." It could be something that will conflict with that of the HBO series, and it would take a lot of effort to make sure that the new story will slot in neatly with the established lore that the HBO show and the previous books have in common.

It is a possible explanation for the book's delay that's been counted through the years. Nonetheless, if this rumor is true, it's very important that Martin is able to write the story for "The Winds of Winter" that meets his satisfaction, and ultimately, those of his fans.
