'The Winds of Winter' Update: George R.R. Martin Joining the MystiCon; Doing a Live Reading at Event

It's no secret that fans have been patiently waiting for the release of "The Winds of Winter," the sixth novel in the epic fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire," which is also the basis for HBO's "Game of Thrones" TV series. But until now, author George R.R. Martin has still not made an announcement on when the book might hit store shelves.

The novelist has been working on it though and is determined to finish it when reports said that he reduced his public appearances to spend more time in finishing the forthcoming sequel to "A Dance With Dragons." As noted in iDigital Times, GRRM wrote in his blog in 2015 "I have too much to do. Too much on my plate."

But with 2015 over and 2016 quickly moving, the author is coming out of his working den to join the American science fiction convention MystiCon on Feb. 26 to Feb. 29 at the Tanglewood Holiday Inn in Roanoke, Virginia.

GRRM announced his appearance in the event through his LiveJournal "Not a Blog." He wrote, "Next weekend I will be heading off to MystiCon, in Roanoke, Virginia, where I'll be a Guest of Honor. A new con for me, and a new part of the country (it's been on my schedule since 2013)."

However, contrary to what many hoped for, it appears that GRRM will not be making any essential announcements regarding the upcoming book. He stated that he is joining the convention for the purpose of spending some time with old friends and meeting new people. He also mentioned that he is stressed and tired so going to a good convention would be a great place to unwind.

But even though GRRM is not making an update about "The Winds of Winter" book, he may be revealing some new "Game of Thrones" material through a live reading. One of the fans commented in GRRM's post and asked if he will be reading from "The Winds of Winter" or from "Fire and Blood" at MystiCon. The "Sandkings" author answered, "That's the plan."

It's still uncertain when the book will be finished, but it's expected already that it won't be completed during the "Game of Thrones" season 6. But GRRM is working on it and fans can hope for an end of the year release date.
