'The Young and the Restless' News: Justin Hartley Takes Over the Role of Adam Newman, October 22-24 Spoilers

"Smallville" and "Revenge" alum Justin Hartley is coming to "The Young and the Restless." The actor will be taking over the role of Adam Newman following the departure of Michael Muhney from the soap. Muhney played the role of Adam on "Y&R" since 2009, before he was let go in December 2013.

It has been previously reported that Muhney was fired from the CBS show for allegedly groping a co-star. Though Muhney or CBS did not issue a comment to verify the allegations, the 38-year old actor took to Twitter on December to simply announce that he was leaving the show and that he will be taking some time off to spend with his family.

In an interview with The Wrap, Hartley talked about the challenges of stepping into the well-established role.

"People are going to have their opinions, which I think is great—I welcome it and love it," he said.

He also complimented Muhney on his portrayal of Adam and talked about how he plans to approach the role.

"I wouldn't say that I'm going to emulate Michael at all. He did a great job with the character, there's no question about it, and I have a lot of respect for him and his work. But I think it happened at such a rapid rate … and you have a choice to make. My approach was, this is how I would like to play the character, and this is what I would like to do," said Hartley.
