'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers, Casting News: Michael Muhney Spotted at 'Y&R' Studios, Reprising Role as Adam Newman?

"The Young and the Restless" star Michael Muhney who was fired earlier this year was reportedly spotted at the studios where the soap opera is filmed recently.

The actor was fired from the role of Adam Newman after allegations of sexual harassment arose over six months ago. Although he denied the accusations and no official charges were made, Muhney's character disappeared and he has not returned to "Y&R," despite news that Adam is alive.

Ever since Muhney's firing and the disappearance of his beloved character, "Y&R" fans have been divided over the soap opera, with many campaigning for Muhney's return or boycotting the show altogether. Furthermore, showrunners including Jill Farren Phelps are experiencing difficulties in hiring a replacement actor for Muhney in the role of Adam Newman. However, reports arose this week indicating that Muhney was spotted at the "Y&R" studios, giving fans hope that he could return to the cast.

"The search for an actor to play Adam has intensified in the last few weeks," Soap Opera Digest reported. "Insiders report that Michael Muhney could be back in the mix to reprise the role. The actor, whose controversial exit last December sent shock waves throughout the community, was reportedly spotted at the 'Y&R' studios."

Meanwhile, "Y&R" showrunners must fill the role of Adam soon as the storyline has already revealed his survival. However, Phelps and others at CBS did not anticipate the backlash that followed Muhney's firing, and many "Y&R" are still boycotting the soap opera and campaigning to get the actor rehired. Consequently, the CBS soap has lost over one million viewers in the last six months.

As previously reported, Phelps is believed to have invited Muhney back to the soap opera, but the actor turned it down.

"Phelps realized she made a massive mistake in letting go one of the show's popular and talented actors," Highlight Hollywood reported. "She approached this actor to return. However, she made a colossal error of judgment … She made a terrible offer, and not only was she quickly rebuffed, but she was told that it is her incompetence in producing the show and bad writing and bad treatment of the show's actor … that is losing [the show] millions of viewers. Jill Farren Phelps is in real danger of losing her job."
