NBC's breakout dramedy series "This is Us" is just on its second episode ever, and already it's enjoying a rabid following and an avid viewership. Fans and critics alike have taken note of its well-crafted storyline and relatable characters, both of which immediately struck a chord with its viewers.

And it continues to ride the tide of its emotional high in "This is Us" Season 1 Episode 3, "Kyle." Viewers are taken back to the 1980s timeline, where Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) meet their triplets for the first time. Fans would recall that during the "This is Us" pilot episode, Rebecca and Jack had unfortunately lost their third child, and have now decided to adopt a third in return.

As the new parents gushed over their kids, both Rebecca and Jack were suddenly overcome, but Dr. Katowski (Gerald McRaney) calmed them down by asking what they plan to name their kids. In honor of the good doctor who had helped them throughout their ordeal, they decided to name their kids with names starting with 'K': Kevin, Kate and Kyle.
Randall's dilemma
Of course, fans know that all three children are the same "strangers" in the pilot: frustrated actor Kevin (Justin Hartley), self-loathing Kate (Chrissy Metz), and the adopted Kyle (Sterling K. Brown), who's now assumed the name Randall. The latter had spent most of "This Is Us" Season 1 Episode 3 mulling about whether or not telling her mother about his biological dad, as his wife Beth (Susan Watson) tries to help him out.
While the episode was devoid of the world-shattering twists it had bravely gone for during the last two episodes, it did, however, surprise still that Rebecca had known all along about Randall's father and yet refused to divulge any information for him growing up. It was the sort of thing that her son had struggled with in "This is Us" Season 1 Episode 3.

Spoilers are out for "This is Us" Season 1 Episode 4, titled, "The Pool." Rebecca and Jack will take the triplets out to the community pool, only to discover that each child is struggling with their own little issues. Meanwhile, presumably in the present timeline, Kevin will audition for a Broadway play and meets an actress who doesn't think him impressive enough to make the cut. Toby, on the other hand, will run into his ex-wife while with Kate, which will make her question herself anew.
"This is Us" Season 1 Episode 4 will air on Oct. 18 on NBC.
