Since 1993, the two Bible League-affiliated thrift centers in Holland, Mich. have raised $3 million to provide more than two million New Testaments to Christians in Mexico.

Two Bibles for Missions Thrift Centers in Michigan, affiliated with a Chicago-based ministry, recently topped $3 million in combined income raised to send God’s Word to Mexico.

Since 1993, the two Bible League-affiliated thrift centers in Holland, Mich. have raised $3 million to provide more than two million New Testaments to Christians in Mexico.

“We don’t want to emphasize the $3 million as much as what the $3 million has done for the people of Mexico,” said Jim Boeve, president of the Thrift Centers’ board of directors. “The money doesn’t mean anything until it reaches the people in Mexico and changes their lives.”

During its first year in 1993, the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center on Lincoln Avenue cleared $15,000 in profits. Since then, a second thrift center opened in Holland, and the popularity of such resale shops has soared, the Bible League reported.

Now with the help of about 150 volunteers, a steady supply of donated items, and faithful customers, the two Bibles for Missions Thrift Centers raise an average of $324,500 per year – a profit that goes towards the organization’s thriving ministry in Mexico.

“Working at the centers gives our volunteers a way to serve the Lord, and gives them an opportunity to have fellowship, too,” Boeve said. “You get tears in your eyes doing this—it’s a great joy to be involved.”

According to the Bible League, there are 12 other Bibles for Missions Thrift Centers in the United States – all of which sell used clothing, furniture, antiques, and other household goods. Since 1993, the stores have contributed enough funds to place 10 million Bibles and New Testaments in areas where the Bible League has ministry, including Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Ukraine.
