Tia Mowry-Hardrict, the 35-year-old Christian actress, is dishing relationship advice to single women after a 14 year relationship with her husband, actor Cory Hardrict.
Mowry-Hardrict has publicly admitted that she took her time in the courting process with her husband, but now she is telling EBONY magazine that some women should shift their focus when it comes to allowing relationships to define them.
"I think you should focus on not having the relationship define who you are or a man to define who you are. So if you're careful and cautious about that going into a relationship, I think it's going to be a healthy relationship," Mowry-Hardrict told EBONY. "And I think at the end of the day, it starts with you. It starts with looking within and loving who you are, knowing who you are first, knowing who you are as a person."
The actress said after women learn to love themselves, they will stop looking for a man to define them. However, she also spoke about the importance of expectations that some women have of who "Mr. Right" should be.
"I think the advice that I would give for single women is, we all have this kind of Prince Charming that we envision, but nobody is perfect," she told EBONY. "I always hear about someone who has pages and pages of qualifications in a man. Well, if you're not realistic, you're always going to just be dissatisfied."
While Mowry-Hardrict also spoke about accepting people's baggage and knowing how much you can handle, she listed some important factors to remember when falling in love that can also be found in the popular biblical scripture, 1 Corinthians 13:4.
"The last thing is, understand what love is," she told EBONY. "Be patient and kind and have unconditional love towards yourself."
Mowry-Hardrict has not shied away from admitting some details about the courting process with her husband, which included avoiding being alone and holding off on kissing for a year.
"...My husband…we courted each other for about a year. We didn't go on dates with just him and I, there were other people around," the actress previously revealed to OK! magazine. "We waited a year to kiss. That's basically what I did."
Mowry first married Hardrict in 2008 and decided to renew her vows on a beach last April in Malibu, Calif., according to E! News. Hardrict walked toward his bride while holding the couple's soon-to-be 2-year-old son Cree, a source told E! News.
