Tim Tebow Being Used to Inspire Funding of Pro-Abortion Groups

In an attempt to raise money for pro-choice women’s groups, a blogger for the Abortion Gang, comprised of "unapologetic reproductive justice activists," is urging followers to donate to such organizations every time football star Tim Tebow scores a touchdown.

Abortion Gang blogger Sofia Brugato posted the fundraising idea on the blog’s website Tuesday, Dec. 13 with the Twitter hashtag "#10forTebow." The fundraising endeavor reads on Twitter: “Every time anti-choice football star Tim Tebow scores a touchdown, we're donating $10 to a pro-choice organization!”

Brugato told the New York Daily News that her intentions were not to spark controversy, but to bring attention to women’s organizations which need funding.

“I don’t know if people are going to donate,” Brugato told the newspaper. “I certainly hope so. It could do good for a lot of women’s groups. Even as much as ten dollars is going to help.”

Critics argue this unique idea for a fundraiser could be seen as insensitive, especially because Tebow’s mother refused a recommended abortion of her son while working as a missionary in the Philippines.

Tebow and his mother appeared in a Super Bowl 2010 commercial for Focus on the Family, a Christian organization for family planning.

“He almost didn’t make it into this world. I can remember so many times when I almost lost him,” Pam Tebow said in the ad.

The Abortion Gang has has received both negative and positive feedback regarding its Tebow fundraiser.

In a Dec. 16 post on its website, the group addresses "the haters" who have been critical of its initiative, insisting that abortion saves lives. "Furthermore, threats over email, in comment threads, or to my face won’t make me back down. Pro-choice advocacy isn’t going anywhere, not now, not after so many battles have been won and lost," the post read.
