In what has come to be known as "tebowing," fans of the Denver quarterback have been taking to the Internet to publish images of themselves imitating the evangelical Christian's kneeling and bowing his head in prayer. Here are some of the more comical images of the unusual tribute.

Tebow, whose parents are Baptist missionaries, has always been very open and vocal about his faith throughout his football career.

It is not always clear if fans (if they are indeed) who imitate Tebow's prayer pose are actually doing so in tribute or in mockery. Either way, this new "tebowing" trend may surely overtake "planking" (a trend that involves people lying stiff like boards in precarious places).

A new website, Tebowing.com, was however inspired by a true fan of the Christian football star.

Jared Kleinstein, a Denver native, told The Wall Street Journal how he became inspired to start the website, Tebowing.com

"Everybody was jumping up and down, and we noticed Tebow Tebowing," Kleinstein said, describing what happened when he and his friends were watching the Broncos win their game on Oct. 23 at a New York City hot spot.

When Klein left the bar, he got his friends to pose like Tebow, and he posted the picture on Facebook, the WSJ reports. The following day, Monday, Kleinsten started a Tumblr page all about "tebowing."

The WSJ reports: "The next morning, he bought the domain name Tebowing.com. By Thursday afternoon, he said, traffic had spiked to over 120,000 views."

On Tebow's official Facebook page, supporters have been wondering how the accomplished athlete feels about the new "tebowing" prayer stance fans have been imitating.

Ira Higgins asked, "Do you approve of this 'tebowing' thing?"

Instead of Tebowing responding, Dalton Pickering offered a reply, saying: " 'Tebowing' may be the closest some people get to praying. I say let them do it. It just shows that they are paying attention to Tim and some may be lead to dig a little deeper as to why he does it and why they are doing it. I say go for it. It is kind of hurtful to see people making fun of him praying but like I said before. It is probably the closest some may ever get to praying. Its a hard concept to think about I will admit."
