Tim Tebow will be returning to the college football world in 2014 following an announcement from ESPN that the former quarterback has signed on for a multiyear deal with the Southeastern Conference network.

Tebow, who has not played professionally since a season warming the bench with the New York Jets in 2012, had been the subject of rumors from the Big Lead earlier this month that he would likely end up with a broadcasting position.

The article correctly suggested that the former Florida Gator would take a position with the SEC network that will be launched next August at a Texas A&M-South Carolina game. With Tebow joining a team that currently consists of Rece Davis and Paul Finebaum, the show will likely be looking for one other co-host.

"I am so excited that ESPN has given me this incredible opportunity," Tebow said in a statement. "When I was 6 years old, I fell in love with the game of football, and while I continue to pursue my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL, this is an amazing opportunity to be part of the unparalleled passion of college football and the SEC."

Tebow fans looking to catch their first glimpse of the athlete's new analyst gig can tune in Jan. 6 to the BCS National Championship game between Florida State and Auburn.

"Tim is an SEC icon with a national fan base and broad appeal. He will be a significant contributor to the compelling content we will deliver with the SEC Network," said Justin Connolly, ESPN senior vice president of programming for college networks. "Tim brings a wealth of knowledge about the game, the conference and the passion among SEC fans."

The ESPN opportunity will also allow Tebow to keep his hopes of playing professional football alive. Tebow, who led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs in 2011, did not play in 2013 after being released following the preseason by the New England Patriots.
