Tim Tebow, the 25-year-old Christian quarterback, may be gearing up to play for the New England Patriots.
Tebow was officially released from the New York Jets roster in April. While a number of media outlets questioned if the NFL player would get his opportunity to play in the league ever again, a source reportedly told USA Today that the Patriots will officially welcome Tebow into their mini training camp this week.
While Yahoo! Sports previously reported that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Tebow had no chance of joining his team, the coach recently blasted the report.
"I wouldn't get into the probability of us pursuing any free agent," Belichick said last Thursday on ESPNBoston.com. "Every single player has strengths and weaknesses but regardless of that, for anyone to have represented that is the way I feel about Tim Tebow is completely untrue, baseless and irresponsible."
Tebow went from being a starting quarterback who led the Denver Broncos to a playoff run in 2012, to being signed on with the Jets last March where he was mostly utilized for special teams options. Tebow only completed eight pass attempts, six completions, 32 rushes and 102 yards with no touchdowns for the Jets before head coach Rex Ryan released a statement saying things did not work out with the Christian athlete.
However, some people lashed out at the Jets' decision to bring on Tebow and not utilize him at the QB position. Steve Clarkson, Tebow's personal QB instructor, has been vocal about Tebow getting another shot in the NFL.
"I would hope whoever, wherever he ends up that they give him an opportunity, and I think if they do, they'll be pleasantly surprised," Clarkson told The Newark Star-Ledger earlier this year. "I think the guy still can play."
Tebow has remained positive about his experience after being dropped by the Jets, despite the media questioning his future in the NFL.
"I may not know where I'm going next, but I know what's guiding me," Tebow said previously according to naplesnews.com.
