Tim Tebow, second year QB for the Denver Broncos, was officially named the team’s starter over Kyle Orton on Tuesday.

Tebow, 24, was the topic of debate since the beginning of the season, when many critics thought he was overrated and should not even be mentioned in a starting QB discussion. Among the critics has been ESPN analyst Merril Hoge, who spoke about Tebow on the Mike & Mike radio show in August.

"He is awful as far as accuracy goes and what's kind of even more disturbing, he's probably worse moving and running around with the football and throwing than he is from the pocket," Hoge said in a statement on the ESPN network.

Hoge has publicly stated that it would be foolish for the Broncos coaching staff to let Tebow take
Orton’s position.

"Sitting watching tape of Bronco offense from last year,” Hoge tweeted in August. “Orton or Tebow? It's embarrassing to think the broncos could win with Tebow!!"

However, Tebow showed and proved on Sunday night when he replaced Orton after halftime in the Broncos’ defeat at the hands of the Chargers. Tebow brought his team back from a 16-point deficit after the crowd beckoned for his arrival.

Aside from the “Tebow, Tebow” chants heard on Sunday night, executive vice president of football operations John Elway, acknowledged that the former starting QB had a lot to deal with amid Tebow’s successes.

"Obviously when you don't have success the quarterback is going to take a lot of the blame," Elway told ESPN. "Kyle's been through that here and it has been tough... and with the following of Tim Tebow behind him and the support he has, that is a tough thing to deal with and Kyle has handled it as well as can be expected."
