Time Has Come to Abolish the IRS

Last Thursday, the House of Representatives for the 257,000th time voted to repeal Obamacare. Once more, it was a meaningless resolution. The agency they should be abolishing is the Internal Revenue Service.

The Obamacare vote was nothing more than political posturing. But there is a far more serious issue that must be dealt with by the House of Representatives.

The issues are those surrounding the IRS scandal.

The IRS did not simply target conservative and Tea Party groups. They intimidated groups. They acted to silence Americans who simply had a different opinion that the government.

These are Americans who believe in America. They do not believe in big government nor do they worship Barack Obama.

The IRS launched an attack that was stunningly un-American. The purpose of the IRS attack was to silence Americans, intimidate them and prevent them from exercising their constitutional rights.

The Republicans in the House have done a great job of showing their outrage. There have been wonderful sound bites. There have even been standing ovations as the Republicans launched a massive and beautiful verbal assault on IRS officials who knew they had no choice but to sit there and take it.

The question Americans need to be asking is are the Republicans going to do something to prevent this from happening again?

Here is one idea - let's defund the IRS.

It is a very simple procedure. All the House has to do is refuse to appropriate any money for the agency. Shocking maybe, but it's something that is long overdue.

Some may wonder if it will disrupt the American government? Maybe, but the time has come to reform our tax system and the IRS has now given us justification to do so.

The actions of the IRS were not the result of a few rogue employees. They were the actions of a rogue agency. In 2008 and 2012, by overwhelming margins IRS employees contributed to Barack Obama over the Republican alternatives. They love the big government of Barack Obama. They believe they have the right to abuse Americans who disagree with them because they worship at the altar of Barack Obama.

This agency deserves the death penalty. Every employee of this agency should be fired as a warning to any other government employee who believes they can abuse their fellow Americans on the basis of their political beliefs.

They deserve to be forever barred from employment with the federal government as a warning to all that government employees are our servants not our masters.

They should be cast to the unemployment line, bereft of any benefits or severance as a deterrent to any other government employee who would act to intimidate the Americans who pay their salary.

The House must act to stop the IRS. Now we have the momentum and the public sentiment behind us to stop the IRS abuses.

The Republicans have played the role of outraged politician to the hilt. Now it is time for them to act. And if they fail to act this time, they will have proved they are every bit as worthless as their colleagues across the aisle.
